Description

During the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, members of the Usila Network – Rohingya survivors of conflict-related sexual violence who fled Myanmar and now live in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, participated in the campaign through a creative art session.

The session featured artwork from various countries, showcasing how art can serve as both an awareness-raising tool and a source of healing for survivors of violence. Inspired by these examples, Usila members created their own illustrations as a means of raising awareness and healing.

Some survivors also chose to share their personal stories of fleeing from Myanmar to Bangladesh, speaking of the violence they endured, the losses they suffered, and their hopes for justice. These artworks and testimonies stand as a collective expression of pain, resilience, and courage, reflecting Usila’s commitment to supporting one another and demanding recognition and rights for Rohingya survivors.

In collaboration with ALTSEAN-Burma, a regional advocacy organisation promoting democracy and human rights in Myanmar, the Usila members’ drawings and testimonies were featured in short videos released during the 16 Days of Activism. The videos amplify the voices of Rohingya survivors and highlight the powerful role of art in healing, empowerment, and advocacy for justice. These videos are available on ALTSEAN-Burma’s Facebook page.
