Description
TRACES is a documentary that follows the stories of six Ukrainian women — from Donbas to the Kherson region and the Kyiv area — who survived conflict-related sexual violence and torture during Russia’s aggression and refuse to remain silent.
Through the journey of SEMA member Iryna Dovgan, a former captive turned activist, the film documents survivor testimonies gathered in the formerly occupied territories of Ukraine. As Iryna brings women together to speak, listen, and support one another, TRACES weaves a collective portrait of trauma, while creating space for resistance, solidarity and hope.
Directed by SEMA member Alisa Kovalenko, the film places survivors’ voices at the centre — confronting silence and demanding accountability for conflict-related sexual violence.
In 2025, TRACES was selected as one of twelve documentaries featured at the Impact Days of the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights. The film received the Sublimages Award, recognising its strength as a tool for advocacy and human rights engagement.
The following year, TRACES was selected for premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). On 16 February 2026, the film had its world premiere in Berlinale, where it received a standing ovation. The moment survivors stood together on stage marked a powerful recognition of their courage, dignity, and leadership.
More than a record of war crimes, TRACES is a testament to resilience and the solidarity of women standing side by side.
