Description
In 2024, the photo book series Ukraine: Love + War (2014–2024) was created as part of the FotoEvidence project. These unique publications bring together the work of over 150 photojournalists from 29 countries to document the Russian invasion of Ukraine through the lens of those who were on the ground bearing witness.
More than just a photo collection, Love + War is a visual archive of the violence and war crimes committed by Russia on Ukrainian soil. The survivors of SEMA Ukraine collaborated with photographer Gaelle Girbes, courageously sharing their testimonies and lived experiences to ensure these atrocities are not forgotten.
The photobooks reveal the indiscriminate violence of the invasion, showing the devastation, displacement, and loss endured by civilians. Many of the contributing photojournalists were among the first to enter newly liberated areas, capturing raw, unfiltered images and stories from the frontlines.
